We all know this. “Failure is the key to success”, and the numerous inspirational quotes out there about failure. In fact, I dare say that all of us had walked this path before, fell, picked ourselves up, and walked again. It is true, in life, dealing with failures is inevitable, and the lessons that we’ve learned are invaluable.
If that’s the case, why do we try so hard to deprive our child of those valuable lessons to be had?
Let’s take a moment to reflect on how we’ve dealt with the grades for the tests our child got in school…
The PSLE is an inevitable experience for every twelve-year-old in Singapore. Every bridging examination is crucial to their holistic development. But, are parents and teachers taking it too seriously? What are the stresses they have to learn to undertake on a daily basis? Well, this article addresses it all.
Every child has his or her capability and capacity. When they reach the maximum, pushing it isn’t the right way to go. However, teachers nowadays get obsessed with the delivery of results, for the pleasure of parents.
This national examination determines the secondary school a child attends. Nowadays, thanks to social…
A lot of us focus on how we can land that next job, or how we can continue to stay relevant in today’s economy. There is also a lot of emphasis on how we can better ourselves to climb that imaginary corporate ladder. While this is important for many of us as it puts food on the table, but how much is too much? Can one really keep pushing oneself in this career pursuit and dream? Or, is this just an obsession that we’ve all been conditioned to think is the only way to survive in today’s corporate world?
This…
If you have stayed in the comforts of an MNC for some time, you probably have thought about trying some different domains but wondered how to ride a smooth journey and succeed. I am here to share my journey.
I had stayed in Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific (FXAP) for close to 12 years. When it became clear that FXAP chose to focus on anchoring initiatives around the multi-function device, I decided to take a leap into the unknown and explore new careers in Nov 2018.
Where next? I have worked in MNCs for more than 20 yrs, it was time…
One of the things that most fresh grads have on their mind is how to land their first job. If you are on a job hunt, you might have heard about Clubhouse. Clubhouse is a platform where users can connect via an audio-chat in rooms. The app (for iPhone only) was launched in April 2020 by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth of Alpha Exploration Co., and it’s been gaining a lot of popularity and attention. (It’s currently invitation-only at the time of writing).
I’ve been on the platform for about 3 weeks now, and I’m super impressed with the networking…
One of the most common questions that candidates struggle with is that question on qualification. “Am I qualified for this?”, “I’ve not done this before, can I really do it?”, or even “I’m not ready for this level, can I apply?”.
If not self-doubt, there are more than enough naysayers out there who would “help” by telling you not to waste your time applying for it. You’re better off with one less rejection.
And for those who are taking the first step toward entrepreneurship, the fear of getting out of your comfort zone, or losing what you’ve achieved so far…
Do note that this article is written in the context of a Singapore public education system, it may not be representative of the framework outside Singapore.
Parent Support Groups (PSG) are common in many educational institutions, especially at the Primary and Secondary levels. As a parent of kids attending primary school education in Singapore, the role and function of PSG in school becomes an integral part of this educational environment.
I have the privilege of serving in the PSG of the school my kids go to. …
I’m a huge fan of writing. For those who’ve worked with me or spoken with me on their career development, they will tell you that I would always recommend writing as a part of their personal development.
To make up for my lack of experience as a fresh grad, one of the first pieces of advice I got from my mentor in my first job was to:
“Keep reading to make up for your lack of experience, and start writing to build your own opinion”.
As a fresh grad, it was difficult to sit down and hit the books again…
Yes, you heard me right. Seriously. “Stop talking!”.We’ve seen this happen too often where a potentially good candidate goes into a spiral and talk themselves out of the job. The thing about this is that they don’t even realize what just happened.
It’s like answering a multiple choice question and they would provide additional information on why they choose that answer and not the other choices.
Sometimes, questions in an interview are just straight forward questions. There’s no right or wrong and you’re not being judged. There’s no angle to the question and the interviewer could really be just looking…
Many of you would have probably seen my various posts on “Clubhouse”. It’s been 19 days since I got on the platform, and I must admit, it’s been a very fun experience. I’ve connected with industry experts and moderated rooms with topics that I’m passionate about. What’s more, I had a conversation with a “celebrity” that I actually follow.
On the flip side, it’s been quite an addictive experience and quite honestly something that you could spend hours on without knowing it. I guess that’s the same with other social media platforms.
As I interact with many of you outside…
